Before we start — while I am young now, I was younger (aged 12) at the time of making these. I don’t think it’s my best creative work, but it was a really interesting project that I think says something about my character.

Here are two stories of me making graphics and brand work for the Wycliffe Baptist Church Holiday Bible Club, in 2020 and 2021.

Mission Possible (2020)

In late 2019, I was tasked with creating the graphics for HBC 2020. As a group, we had decided on the wonderful theme of Mission Possible, using spy related themes and crafts to explore some bible verses. Unfortunately, I didn’t document my creative process well - but I had a fun time creating the ideas from home, and working with the club leadership for their ideas and approval.

As well as creating the logo, I tried to build out the rest of the brand, creating a Brand Kit with the correct font files, colours and hex codes to use, and little assets like handdrawn doodles.

Unfortunately, in 2020 the COVID pandemic happened, and as a planning team we all slowly realised this event wasn’t going to happen in person. Fortunately, it did mean I had a lot of free time. Over many zoom meetings, it was agreed I could work on the video production team.

In addition to the work I did to make a brand kit, for the first time ever I dabbled in video editing and making title cards! I think you might be able to tell, but they were made in PowerPoint. As a small volunteer team, we did not have Creative Cloud licences or expertise - so I created a template and instructions to show anyone how to make their own intro cards from my base template.

The Way (2021)

In late 2020 through to Summer 2021, I reduced my workload but was lucky to come back to support the project. I created the visual for The Way — and other than that, didn’t do any more visual work! I did support the project through giving my time as a teen leader during the week of the event, and thankfully didn’t need to do more video (as we closely dodged the Autumn Lockdown).
